Best Things to Do in Sengkang
Sengkang is an ulu place, isn’t it? You’d think there’s nothing there aside from Sengkang EC, some other HDB, and some private estates, right? You are wrong! There are countless things to do in Sengkang that you probably didn’t know about! Check them out below:
Sengkang Riverside Park
Sengkang Riverside Park is the biggest hidden gem in Sengkang, where the trees are green, and the birds are everywhere. It is just walking distance from Anchorvale Community Centre and relatively open. On your walk to the park, you will come to a point where you can nearly view the sky meeting water scene.
If you love the serenity of greeneries, this is a park worth traveling for. It gets peaceful when you venture deeper into the park (it is enormous!), and you get to experience nature at its most elegant. The blue sky, joined with tall bushes of green grass, will lure you into calmness.
Mushroom Café at Sengkang Riverside Park
Mushroom Café is a quiet little café at the entrance of Sengkang Riverside Park. It serves basic food at low prices. What I love about this café is the harmony that you will get on a weekday. It is a fantastic place to hang out if all you wanted is to stare at the greenery and be at peace.
The staff there are approachable and are usually more than willing to chat with you if there are not many people all over. It is also an amazing spot to study due to the peaceful environment. In front of it is the Sengkang Riverside Park, where you can go for a stroll after chilling out at the café.
Sengkang Floating Wetland
Sengkang Floating Wetland is yet another area that is near Sengkang Riverside Park. It creates a seamless connection between the park and the Anchorvale Community Centre, and the Sengkang Sports Complex. Sengkang Floating Wetland is the biggest artificial floating wetland in Singapore, measuring 2400 square meters.
The floating wetland was made to enhance the water quality and provide a natural environment for birds and fishes. Boardwalks were constructed so that people can access the floating wetland and get closer to the scenic landscapes. Visitors can also know more about the wetland ecosystem.
Sengkang Swimming Complex
Sengkang swimming complex was finished in August 2008 and has since then served as one of the go-to places for water fun and swimming lessons. There are eight water slides to be seen, such as the multi-slide, the free fall, the speed slide, and the twisty slide. There are also splash and slide spots for children and a large Jacuzzi pod for the adults.
Many things for you to do as a family on a lazy weekend out. It is also affordable as the Singapore Sports Council manages it. The entrance fee on the weekend is capped at $2/adult and $1/child or senior. Here’s an advice: if you’ve not, sign up for an Active@SG account, so you’ll receive the $100 credit for all Singaporeans. You can use that as an entrance fee to the swimming pool, among countless others.
Cubitt Gym
Cubitt Gym is voted one of the top 5 neighborhood gyms by Men’s Health SG and is found in the same compound as Sengkang Swimming Complex. It is a 355 square meter gym and is deemed very spacious.
This gym can house multiple people, and they have a pretty extensive range of weights for men. The price is also low at $2.50 for the general public and $1.50 for those below 18. Again, sign up at Active@SG if you have not done so.
Wild Wild West
One of the most well-known water theme parks within Singapore, Wild Wild West is worth visiting. In this park, there are various adventurous activities in which you can join to have endless fun. With an area of 3.8 hectares, Wild Wild West park is the best place for a day out. Admission is not free, but it stays affordable for everybody. Before scheduling your visit to this park, do some research about various activities conducted here.
If you live near Sengkang, like if you own a unit in Sengkang EC, you can experience the beauty that this place has to offer. If not, however, we guarantee that this place is still worth the travel time.
